Brinley, Drew, Everyday 1 Comment »

School’s out for summer! We enjoyed watching Drew & Brinley participate in end-of-the-year sports activities, graduation, prom…Ok, got a little carried away on that last one…

Where should we start? On the field of course! Are these girls BFFs? Attached at the hip? Well, they’re attached at the ankle for now. They are ready to win this alien race!

img_5768

In case the races weren’t exciting enough, Rowan doing the Riverdance was quite the sideshow…

img_5799

Hey Binnie, that’s a pretty sweet sag in them gangsta jeans you’re wearin’. I think they be Drew’s! And spots, ruffles and stripes? Only the Binbob can rock that style!

img_5772

Rowan got first place in the clown-hairball shotput competition…not sure what the rules are on that…

img_5791

Ryan said, “Where’s the war paint? The mud pit? The kilts? This ain’t a real tug ‘o’ war!” I don’t think they care…

img_5782

This picture of Eleanor pretty much sums up the rest of field day…thud.

img_5801

This is what Drew got to do instead of field day! Isn’t his little tooshie adorable, though!?

img_5803

Flippin’ funnel clouds Batman! What can we do to keep the troops entertained while hunkered down inside this scholarly shelter? Creepy puppets are a sure bet!

img_5810

All’s well that ends well. We finally got to go home in time for dinner and bedtime. We had to get up early the next day to get the best seats at graduation. The Beacon of Cuteness helped us save seats…as long as she had a cracker.

img_5817

C’mon, sing it! Daaah, Da-di-da, daaa-daaaah, daaah, da-di-da, daaaaah…Class of 2023!  Brinley made another fashion statement by insisting on wearing her clunky old gym shoes. Gotta  love a girl that knows what she wants…

img_5821

Each graduate had their name read and any advice they had for next year’s class. The kids in the back are riveted with excitement, can’t you tell!? Are any of these kids on the Honor Roll?

img_5825

Juice, cake, and hugs were served afterwards in the cafeteria. You ok Brinley?

img_5834

Aw, Binnie is gonna miss her teacher! We’re gonna miss her too…We’re now without a kindergartner for the next 2 years!

img_5835

Brinley told us that one of the things she will miss the most is the routine…Art, Gym, Music, Library, Recess…not to mention riding the big yellow bus! Dry those tears Binnie, we have plans for you! Summer School is now in session! Enrollment? Mandatory! Bwahahahahaaa!

img_5837

And just like that we have a 3rd grader and a 1st grader!

Brinley, Crafts, Drew 2 Comments »

A couple of months ago Drew & Brinley were told not to come to school. It wasn’t a holiday, snow day, bad behavior or sickness. What could it be? It was the cold. It was so cold outside that school was cancelled for two days!

Now, we’re not going to sit around and watch movies all day, right? Of course not! We’re going to make our own custom-fitted jammies, caramel popcorn and then watch movies all day…right!

img_4042

“All day” is a relative term, of course. You’ll notice that bed-head of Drew’s suggests that “someone” might have turned off their alarm clocks in the interest of more sleep…

img_4039

Ah! The reveal! Are you sure those pants are environmentally friendly?

img_4040

The work is almost finished. Give us a preview Brinley!

img_4043

Elastic waistbands, buttoned up shirts, high waistlines…feels like a fashion show for old people. Comfy! But I’m not too sure how snow boots fit into the style…

img_4048

But the models seem confident that this look is hot!

img_4050

Now while we’re all impressed, this post has to take a detour in time for a moment…Almost a year ago Drew & Brinley decided they weren’t going to let Mommy be the only one in the house who could make a quilt. So they picked out some fabric and got to work…

img_5097

These little quilts aren’t just for looks; the fleece underside keeps them warm on days when…well, on cold days when school is closed!

img_5104

Hold on, we’re not quite finished with our wrinkle in time yet. The quilts have been used for months now, but Drew & Brinley wanted to proudly display their finished masterpieces before continuing. It just so happens that this day was Crazy Hair Day at school, hence the upside-down punk-piggies…

img_5100

…and the super-wave-dave faux hawk. Sweet homemade blanket, dude! Ok, back to the story…

img_5113

At last, the premiere of a movie they’ve seen 20 times before finally arrived. Were they still excited? Yes. But that was because they got to eat caramel popcorn in the living room on their own quilts and watch the movie at the same time!

img_4052

Eleanor was pretty excited to be able to chill like the big kids with her very own bowl to snarf.

img_4058

The animated feature droned on, and Eleanor’s attention wavered. She was out of popcorn! How to solve this dilemma? Find the biggest bowl of them all. Hey! That’s my popcorn!

img_4068

The problem with this was that the popcorn in her bowl was hand-picked for baby-sized mouths. Drew, do the Heimlich! Bleh!

kitchen elves

Brinley, Drew, Eleanor, Rowan 4 Comments »

When the weather gets crafty (read: crappy) and our outdoor plans are turned to squash, we get pretty bored staring at our colorful walls. When it’s cold outside, there’s nothing better than cooking up a great meal! All it takes is for someone to pull out a cutting board and the kitchen converts to a Keebler elf tree house.

This mischievous little nymph wanted to get her hands dirty and help make eggplant parmesan. Take it away Rowan; I’ve never been a fan of the egg wash! Slimy!

img_4246

This little fairy’s wings must be clipped. Don’t look at me with that face! Yeah, yeah…you are so neglected!

img_4369

Eggplant parm phase 2. Lookin’ good! Show that vegetable who’s boss…

img_4248

Ah-ha! Your true identity has been revealed, little troll! Your hypnotic wailing won’t work on me this time! Can’t you find a cupboard or something to get into? I’m working here…

img_4372

Make sure that eggplant gets evenly coated in bread crumbs Rowan, nobody likes a soggy eggplant! It’s got to be as crunchy as your tree huggin’ mama!

img_4249

Brinley tried to remember what it was like to have the warm summer air blow through her hair while her side dish went round & round. That’s not a tumor; it’s a double-chin!

img_4366

Chef Drew, would you care to enlighten us? “This is how I dice olives. I don’t make the horizontal cuts in toward the pit after making the downward cuts.  So I make the vertical slices, and then just start the dicing. It naturally falls apart. Then I run the knife through the pile of dice just for good measure.” What did he say?

img_4375

No touchy touchy Rowan, we’ve got to save those olives for dinner. And that spatula is lookin’ pretty weird…

img_4378

Rowan, caught red-handed! Check out the blur of intense focus on Drew’s face, I told you he takes his food seriously! Doesn’t look like our beloved spatula will live to see another taco Tuesday…

img_4374

Good thing we have a backup spatula, otherwise Brinley would be a hand-flipping little tortilla girl, and that just sounds dangerous…

img_4380

How’s that taco taste Nellie? Hey, if you don’t like it take it up with the captain, but don’t shoot the cooks!
