walk on water

Brinley, Drew 1 Comment »

I’ve watched Mommy & Daddy and all the other big kids ride on the skis and wakeboards. It looks like lots of fun to glide across the water behind a speeding boat. Grandma borrowed this funky contraption from our neighbors down the beach and thinks it might be my ticket outta here.

Are you sure this is gonna work? I think I need a pep talk…

speech

Alrighty, here I go. Hey! It’s working!!!

drewgoes

Woohoo! See you slackers on the flip side!

drewback

Brinley says anything I do she can do better. We’ll see…

binnie

There she goes! Lean into the turn Brinley! I learned the hard way.

brinleyback

Ahh, she’s a natural! My turn again!

Listen here Rowan. Listen! Put down the remote, unplug the video games, and put the dolls away. It’s time you gain a big appreciation for the outdoors, and I don’t want to hear any whining about it ok? That’s what I thought!

rodiggity

This camping veteran got right to work helping Daddy haul all the gear and chow for our weekend adventure.

cooler

Brinley was supposed to help, but she was carried away in the beauty of her surroundings and opened up a wildflower florist shop instead.

bouquet

What about you Ro-dog? Ah there she is, doing a great job of holding down the tarp while Daddy sets up the tent.

righttowork

Rumble grumble. What’s that? Rowan’s getting hungry? Well, find a place for her to sit that’s not in the dirt and we’ll get her served up.

roastina

Let’s zoom out for a better view. That looks like the comfiest camping chair ever Rowan! And fire front property! That real estate aint cheap!

firefrontproperty

Brinley and Ana got down to business and roasted their dogs on the open fire. Notice they favored wood sticks over metal pokers for that organic smoky taste.

roast

Lookin’ real good and burned Scoob! Maybe a bit longer in the fire and then that dog will put some hair on your chest! Arrrrrr!

burned

Princess Brinley nibbled on her food between lengthy conversations with her entourage.

horkagain

Like father like son. Drew likes fire, and efficiency! He found a perfect stick for making twice as many smores and had them cooked in half the time.

Day 2: How was your night Ro? Lookin’ good.

happy

The lords of the (butter)flies took their spears and headed off into the forest in search of the elusive Rocky Mountain Snipe. Drew looked high. Sadie looked low…

climb

They all looked, hunted, and tracked the best they could, but could find no sign of the fictitious animal. It doesn’t seem that Brinley was too broke up about it.

climbagain

All that tree climbing and tracking gave her a nice head full of filth.

filth

What fun is camping if you can’t get dirty?

grubby

Hey Flame Boy! We are out of firewood!  Hiiiiiiiiiiiyah!

firewood

While Flame Boy chopped wood Hayden and Ana prepped for another tasty round of smores. Who knew marshmallows grew on trees?!

mash

That mallow’s a flamin’! Tasty!

pyro

Mmmmmmmmm. So what’s the secret to getting melty chocolate?

smore

Brinley doesn’t really like smores all that much.

hork

Well Rowan, have you had any fun out here in the woods of Georgetown? Judging by your legs it appears that your appreciation is significant. Good work!

readytogohome

Unfortunately the florist had to file Chapter 11 bankruptcy. There were no more flowers to pick! Time to go home!

I guess you may have noticed that we took a short break from the blog. Do not fear, we were plenty busy and have plenty of stew for everyone to have seconds, thirds, whatever! We are finding ourselves severely backed up in pictures & posts, so hold on to your hats…and cross your fingers that we somehow manage to keep up!

Yesterday Rowan was kickin’ it old skoo in her fancy diaper and fresh ink. This girl knows how to melt her papa’s heart. Nothing like a drooly tattoo to set the record straight!

In other news, Brinley scored a 100% success rate with her first butterfly crop. We woke up to black cocoons one morning. We were worried it was all for naught, but a few hours later the butterflies emerged. Nature is amazing!

black-cocoon

Brinley’s first born enjoying a sugar-water soaked paper towel! Mmmm, feast!

papertowel

After a few days the butterfly mama introduced her babies to other forms of liquid sugar, which passed rigorous taste tests, of course! What mama doesn’t take a bite first?

tastetest

The best part of raising butterflies is getting to hold and play with them before setting them free. The boy was all about it, and jumped at the chance to investigate the bugs.

drew

Brinley wasn’t as daring and had to warm up before venturing out on her own.

touch

Finally the nervous mama collected some courage and enjoyed a light tickle from her butterfly children.

nervous

Butterflies can’t stay inside forever, so it was time to set them free. At this point holding the butterflies was an old hat for the Fred.

release

This one hopped off her finger and right on to one of our strawberry plants. Come back and visit sometime, huh!?
