Halloween wasn’t just one fun night for Drew & Brinley. It was a whole week of fun. All week long the kids were doing fun things in order to truly capture the Halloween that every kid dreams of. Wear your costume once on Halloween night? What a drag. Wear it to get all kinds of candy and other free stuff? Now you’re talking!

D&B&R hopped into the studio the moment after they ripped open the box from Grandma J to show off her fine work. It also worked as a way to preserve the memory of the costumes in case anybody bit the dust. 

Brinley dear, it really isn’t a real cupcake. Ok, whatever…

She is a cute cupcake isn’t she?

Thanks Grandma J for turning a lampshade, beads, and some fabric into pure magic.

The Dilly Bar, ready to roll.

Looks like the mothership likes Dilly Bars too. Who doesn’t?

Oh yeah, and Drew wanted a taste too.

Rowan looks like a tasty banana split laying in chocolate. Or the Pope. ha!

Don’t doubt for a minute that she isn’t going in for a taste.

A few days later we went to Freaky Fun Day at at Old Navy, where the first 100 kids with their costumes on got to pick out a graphic-tee for free. Score!

We went to DQ on Halloween day so I could get some pics of Drew with a Dilly Bar. Turns out they were giving out cones to kids in costume! The DQ peeps said there was no way they could give a walking Dilly Bar anything less than the ultimate reward.

Brinley was SO jealous that she insisted (screaming bloody murder) that she get a bite. Who wants a cone when you can have a Dilly Bar? Exactly.

I don’t know, something is just creepy about a Dilly Bar eating a Dilly bar. Hannibal Lecter anyone?

All done and saving the stick for Oscar. He likes to chew on wood, and is quite the pine aficionado.

Rowan, the dairy nazi, giggled the whole time about all the creamy dreamy goodness I missed out on. I think her costume should have involved horns and a tail.

After DQ we hit up Papa Murphy’s for free pizzas! We are the supreme Kings of Cheap!

And that is the end of our Halloween festivities. Finally!

Buckle up, we’ve got picture overload here. A certain (and well-loved Grandma) slaved over these costumes, and I think she deserves a play-by-play of our super fun night. Besides, I had trouble deciding which pictures to post, so why not post them all? I like telling stories with pictures anyway, so consider yourself warned.

I am the anti-flash.  Avoiding the flash does have it’s price, so I’m trying to be a big girl and embrace the grain in these photos. It adds to the spooky halloween spirit, right? ISO 3200 anyone? yeah baby!

We got started at sunset, and what a beautiful sunset it was. Drew and Brinley didn’t have any patience for a photo shoot. They wanted to get moving, there was candy to be had! This year the kids’ costumes were all about the sweets: a Dilly Bar from DQ and a Cupcake with a cherry on top!

Rowana-Banana-Split was happy, happy all night long! 

The kids decided to taste each others costumes…mmmm, fleece!

Drew tried to bite of one of Brinley’s sprinkles, but I think his gap-tooth smile prevented him from actually sinking his teeth into one.

We can always count on one street in our neighborhood going all out for the kids, and this year was no exception.

The kids call it the “best job evah.”

I love watching the magic of Halloween. Every door is as exciting as the first. You never know what you are gonna get!

Brinley was done way before Drew was ready to give up.

Even after a short run through the neighborhood the kids had a real decent haul. Rowan called dibs on anything that crinkles. 

Hey Drew time for bed…go get your jammies…no more candy…hey stop looking at me like that!

Check. It. Out. Full size candy bars. That is more exciting than a box of Nerds!

Rowan was a champ all night long.  As you can see she has graduated into playing in the exersaucer… Such a big girl she is!

After the loot was all sorted an accounted for the kids couldn’t wait to pass out candy to other trick-or-treaters. We actually ran out of candy and started handing out glow sticks.

Thanks Grandma for making our Halloween the best ever!

I’m having a hard time keeping up with the old ball & chain, I mean blog this month. The kids get older and life gets crazier. Homework, field trips, class parties and fussy babies are taking their toll on my time to sit idly at the computer.

This photo of Brinley pretty much sums up our feelings about October.

Even though Fall only lasts a few minutes here in CO there were several days of sunshine that allowed us to enjoy the old habits of summer, such as evening bike rides…

We even had our own yard sale. The kids were great helpers and made sure all their old toys looked new again. So new that they had a hard time giving them up.

The kids sold drinks at the sale and raked in $5 each! I forgot to snag a picture of them selling the sodas, so this one will have to do. 

Rowan is pretty easy to please. She has discovered her voice and loves to make her presence known.

You know what our favorite thing is? Free stuff of course! No one can pass up free ice cream at Coldstone!

Mmmm….Ooey gooey marshmallow ice-cream.

Here’s a not-so-good habit. I’ve told Drew a million times not to climb the back fence to talk to the neighbor kids. I guess the 261 slivers are a better teacher.

Rowan still isn’t fan of the outdoor woods.

That’s OK, CTR Boy & Girl will save her. Cheddar looks like he is listening for the Jumanji drums calling him back to the wild. Another three-week hiatus may not end as well this time.

We ran out of construction paper the other day, and the kids were itching to do something crafty, so I sent them to the backyard with scissors. 

A week passed and we still hadn’t bought any paper. Back to the yard kids!

I think they liked this activity more than cutting paper.

If it’s too cold outside to cut grass there’s usually something else that can be made into a useful pile of confetti. Does anyone use phonebooks anymore?

Rowan is getting cuter and needier by the minute. Teething, immunizations, and dairy make my days look like this…

She does command her subjects to eat every morning from her throne on high.

This is what it looks like after school at our house. Brinley’s first question for Drew is “Did you eat your snack all gone?” If there are any crumbs left in his lunchbox she will eat them.  Believe it or not, she gets the same snack at home that Drew gets at school. Maybe it tastes better after it’s been to school and back?

Brinley loves to play with her hair. What girl doesn’t?

I wonder who snuck into the bag of chocolate chips. Hmmmm. It still remains a mystery.
