like a hurricane

She came, she ate, she sewed, she left.

It was awesome.

I’m happy to say that we completed every single one of the items on “the list.” Well, except one, and I’m still working on it. It’s a beast. Don’t ask me how it’s going.

Isn’t she purdy? She’s available too, any eligible suitors should forward all financial records and background checks to me. And then stand in line…Priority will be given to anyone who resides in Colorado and doesn’t mind having a needy sister-in-law for a neighbor. thankyouverymuch.

I’m pretty sure Kelsey is at home right now doing something like this. She needs to detox from the kids, the noise, the dumb sewing questions and the massive amounts of sugar and butter we consumed during the week. ha!

detox

We worked diligently on this little guy. We actually made two of them – one for Kelsey and one for miss sassy pants Rowan. Kelsey will kill me for letting the zebra out of the bag, but she did say he is helping her sleep better through the night. It must be his piercing blue eyes and warm embrace. swoon!

Hopefully he will have the same effect on Rowan. soon!

We tried to channel our inner girl scout and make Thin Mints. They turned out more like Thick Mints, but they were still pretty tasty!

We also tried Samoas. Ryan said they were more like Tongans, they were a little larger in stature, but that didn’t affect the taste. They were pretty close to the real thing. mmmmm.

We finished this handbag just in time to welcome Spring. I can definitely see more of these in my future. Immediate future that is.

We ventured out to the Flea Market, and unfortunately, the only thing worth buying was fruit – of the exotic variety.  cheap, cheap! It was a good excuse to cook up something fancy and pretend that pb&j isn’t a main staple of my diet.

I can honestly say that D&B were pretty much neglected the whole time. They were pretty good at fending for themselves; if we forgot to feed them they ever so kindly ask for a banana and a string cheese and went merrily on their way.  If you want to know the whole truth, Brinley wore those pajamas for two days straight. They played outside most of the time; we threw them a bone once in a while….pretended to care, etc.  You know… 🙂

Our granny panties eventually transformed into a super stylin’ shopping cart cover. Photo courtesy of my cell  phone… Rowan is a big fan! And so is the kind lady in the background. We had to take it for a test drive before we stitched the main components down. The pattern was muy confuso. —-> I picked up some Spanish at the Flea Market. It wasn’t a total bust.

Kelsey & I must have taken our food photography a little too seriously. Drew made me this handy dandy little backdrop. It even has a spot marked out for circle cookies, and square cookies.

I guess he wasn’t permanently damaged by being ignored for a week.

work in progress…

As I mentioned before, my lovely little sister Kelsey has been staying with us this week. It’s her spring break and she thought it would be fun to join our circus for a few days. Kelsey is quite an accomplished seamstress, so I enlisted her help with several projects I’ve been wanting to tackle.

My sister is a super cool college girl, it’s a bummer these granny panties weren’t the right fit.

Ro supervised this project, since really it is for her. Or is it more for me?

We’ve also been baking up a storm. There’s nothing like a couple Holly Housewives holed up in a house for a few days. Well, there’s only one housewife here, but I digress. Either way, Little Debbie ain’t got nothin’ on us.

And then there were these little beauties. Is it Sonic, or a cupcake? Or is it Sonic in a cupcake? Our pride and joy…

And back to the sewing machine. As you can see we haven’t actually completed anything, but we have 765 projects in the works, and three days to go. Shouldn’t be a problem, right?

This is the one we are both excited about. Also the one that is the most amount of work. 9 hours and counting until the kids go to bed…

swarm of the shamrock

If an overweight guy with reindeer and an egg-obsessed rabbit can bring gifts to children all around the world, why can’t a bunch of mischievious irish elves get in on the fun?

The leprechauns seemed to invade from all directions. First there was the little green footprints that led from D&B’s bedroom down to the fridge where their little milk jugs had been irish-a-fied, idea courtesy of the brilliant St. Kari.

Drew set up a leprechaun trap to see if this mythological character could be tamed. He managed to break loose of the trap, but not without leaving some of his “gold” behind.

Those persnickety pixies also left an all time favorite – sugar cookie dough. Shamrock shaped cookie cutters were the weapon of choice, of course!

chubby-unforgiving-fingres

Did the kids enjoy the plain old sugar cookies? Nope! With the help of some St. Paddy’s inspired frosting from Grandma F the kids got right to work embellishing those behavior-altering flour chunks into masterpieces of mischief!

No this isn’t leprechaun genocide. I wanted to take a page out of Bakerella’s book and try some cake balls. Since my sister Kelsey is here, we thought with twice the luck we could pull it off, but alas… Bakerella we are not. They were still fun to make (and eat!).

leprechaun-pops

O’Drew went off to kindergarten armed with yet another handmade leprechaun trap. If they doesn’t fall for the paper rainbow and the gold painted bottle caps, I don’t know what else the boy can try.

Alas, neither of the traps worked. Drew decided to take a more diplomatic approach and wrote a letter. “Leprechaun how come you didn’t let me catch you in my jail and my office one. Can I catch you today your leprechaun letters are silly man on the box. My name Drew.”

letter

Drew wasn’t sure of the address to send it to. Just Ireland oughtta do right? On the envelope Drew is trying to appeal to the sprites’ softer side. I don’t know how that’s gonna work; they call them the Fighting Irish for a reason!
