Oscar Stew

Rowan went back to the doctor last week for her 5 month visit, it should have been a four month visit, but we are still playing catch-up. She weighed in at 12lbs 7oz (10%), she is such a petite little thing!

Here she is all posed and pretty before the doctor came in.

What elephant? I don’t see an elephant anywhere in this room. Everything is ohhh kaaaay.

A few hours later, sleeping off those darn shots.

Way back when Drew was a baby we got one of those fancy exersaucers. Drew & Brinley both loved it, but we weren’t too sure about Rowan. She hasn’t shown an interest in toys yet. Drew & Brinley helped Daddy unbury the saucer from the depths of the basement, and gave it a good sanitizing wipe-down. Then…it was time.

Whoa, what is all this?! You can literally see the gears turning…

And then she started grabbing at everything like a pro, she knew what to spin and what to push. She had been holding out on us!

Can you say record scratch, baby style? 

I loved watching her discover everything. It was a whole new world for her.

She stayed in the saucer for quite a while! It’s nice to have something entertain her during the day so I can do things like cook and bake, and yeah – clean.

We finally took Rowan in for her 2 month check-up. She is just 9 days shy of being 4 months, way to be on-time! Our regular doctor went on maternity leave and I took my sweet time finding a new pediatrician. Besides, watching Rowan get her first set of shots wasn’t on the top of my priority list. We love our new pediatrician (thanks Rachel!), I think we will ditch the old doc and continue to go to the new place.

Rowan has happy-go-lucky and charmed the doctor. She loved the crinkly paper on the table, and was wiggling around like crazy trying to make noise. She wasn’t too thrilled about the shots, but got over it pretty quickly. She is 11lbs (25%) and 23.5inches tall (50%).

Her cute little band-aid. We need to have a talk with her about those short shorts.

This has nothing to do with her appointment, but I have to sneak in more pictures! I caught Rowan in a good mood a few days ago, she was flashing me all sorts of smiles and funny expressions. She is becoming so much fun lately!

Whats that smell? Oh, it must be the mustard bomb in my pants. My bad.

Are you going to change my diaper or what?

I’m definitely missing the tiny helpless newborn stage, but it is so fun when they start to interact and play! The kids are having so much fun with her too, they seem to be able to get smiles out of her when I can’t! I think they are already planning ways to gang up on me…

The other day Drew and Brinley started making up their own lyrics to the Woody’s Roundup song from Toy Story. I’ll post them as soon as I can actually understand them…

I think we are past due for an update on our favorite little chunk of chub. She is becoming so much fun.  The kids get a kick out of accessorizing her or trying to get her to laugh or smile.

It’s a lot easier to get a smile out of her these days. She is all smiles until I whip out the camera, then I only get a mere smirk. Curses on my big black camera, if I had a small sleek silver one she probably wouldn’t even notice it.

She loves to soak up the evening sun with her favorite Daddy.

We’ve finally got nap time figured out to a science. She must be on her belly, laying on her left side with her hands near her chin. Any combination other than that one, and no dice.

Which of course is my cue to harass her with lots of pictures of all her l’il parts & pieces.

She had her first dip in the pool on Labor Day. I don’t know what she was more upset about – the chilly water or the swimming suit that was three sizes too big. Plus I don’t think yellow is her color.

Her cheeks keep getting bigger and bigger and BIGGER.

We hung her upside down for a few seconds to see what effect gravity had on those suckers.

She’s looking like such a big girl in her Bumbo chair. Bumbo’s weren’t around when D&B were babies, and I just had to have one.  We scored this baby on Craigslist yesterday. Bargain!

A little tongue action, too. I think that means the photoshoot is over. Or maybe just beginning? I have about 15 more pictures just like this one, I’ll spare you though.

Is she not the cutest thing you have ever seen? Aside from your own offspring, of course 🙂
